14 TRUCK LOAD WITH ILLEGAL LOGS FROM MYANMAR SEIZED AT UKHRUL

Imphal, 17 May, 2017 (DIPR): Forest and Environment Minister Shri Th. Shyamkumar pulled up 14 trucks loaded with logs, illegally brought from Myanmar via Kamjong District in Ukhrul today. The truck drivers, carrying fake transit pass, were taking the logs to the neighbouring state of Nagaland.
The trucks, carrying pine wood and kangara wood logs, were intercepted at the Finch Corner, 26 kms from the Ukhrul Town. Minister Shyamkumar was on his way back to Imphal after attending the opening ceremony of Shirui Festival 2017 which kicked off yesterday.
On his way back to Imphal, Minister Shyamkumar inspected the office of the Beat Forest Officer, Finch Corner under Forest Division Ukhrul. After coming out of the office, Minister Shyamkumar came across 3 trucks with registration number of Nagaland. After driving few meters above the mountain, 11 trucks with registration number of Assam and Nagaland were found seized by DC Kamjong, Shri Armstrong Pame and SP Kamjong, Shri L. Ragui. The documents of truck drivers were seized by the officials.
Minister Shyamkumar revisited the office of the Beat Forest Officer, Finch Corner and thoroughly checked the seized documents of the truck drivers along with the DC Kamjong, Shri Armstrong Pame in presence of DFO Ukhrul, Shri Manglem Singh, Range Officer, SW Siusa and AS Tuishang, Deputy Ranger. Fake signatures were found in many documents including fake transit pass.
Speaking to the media persons, Shri Shyamkumar appreciated Kamjong DC and SP Kamjong for pulling up the trucks which were illegally carrying the logs. He said that, officers of the Forest Department need to perform their duty diligently and sincerely so that the department can achieve the set target revenue of Rs 100 crore annually.
Stating that there was information of logs being stock up at the Kamjong district, Minister Shyamkumar warned that, no illegal activities will be allowed in the department. He also assured that the department will take up activities to conserve the forest land to check the global warming.
The seized trucks loaded with logs were handed over to the DFO Ukhrul and RO Kamjong. The officers will take further necessary legal action. (DIPR)
