73RD ANNIVERSARY OF BATTLE OF IMPHAL OBSERVED

Imphal, May 20, 2017: The 73rd anniversary commemoration of Battle of Imphal, World War-II was held today at Classic Grande, Imphal. The observation was jointly organised by Manipur Tourism Forum and 2nd World War Imphal Campaign in association with Department of Tourism, Government of Manipur.
Chief Minister, Manipur Shri N. Biren Singh, Parliamentary Secretary, Nagaland Shri C. Apok Jamir, Ambassador of Japan to India, Shri Kenji Hiramatsu and Chairperson, Burma Campaign Society, Mrs Akiko Macdonald attended as main dignitaries of the function.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister said that WWII is one of the greatest events of the world that changed the course of history of mankind. “We all witnessed the unfathomable destructions, human tragedies leaving behind irreparable relationships amidst the transformation in the demographic profiles of many nations,” he added.
Stating that peaceful coexistence and reconciliation is the philosophy for living together, Shri N. Biren Singh stressed that the biggest realisation of reconciliation to live in peace, forgive and forget, and look towards humanity of generosity and global fraternity.
Ambassador of Japan to India, Shri Kenji Hiramatsu said that we must reconciliate from the bitterness of World War II and strive for peace and prosperity. He stressed that the Japanese government has decided to invite 25 young people from Manipur and Nagaland to visit Japan and also decided to organise an official seminar in Imphal in November this year. These two initiatives of the Japanese government would facilitate and deepen the friendship ties between the two countries, he added. Shri Kenji Hiramatsu further assured that the Japanese Government would provide financial support in the developmental projects taken up in Manipur and other Northeastern States of India.
Chief Secretary Shri O.Nabakishore, Former President, Manipur Tourism Forum, Dr. Th. Dabhali Singh and delegates from Japan also attended the function. (DIPR)
