CAF&PD MINISTER KARAM SHYAM INSPECTS FCI GODOWNS

IMPHAL, MAY 17, 2017(DIPR): Consumer Affairs Food and Public Distribution Minister Shri Karam Shyam today inspected FCI (Food Corporation of India) godown in Bishnupur district and Sawombung in Imphal East. Speaking to media persons after the inspection, Minister Karam Shyam expressed satisfaction at the work progress of the State PWD (Public Works Department) in Sawombung and Bishnupur. He said the State Government has set a target to set up a total of 15 FCI godown with 6 currently under progress and 9 godowns in the pipeline.

Pleased with the work progress of State PWD, the Minister said he will write to the Union Government to award additional work to State PWD for construction of godowns in Churachandpur and Chandel district. Urging all the officials, engineers and workers involved in the godown construction to work with dedication and sincerity, he said that rewards will be given from CAF&PD department as a token of encouragement.

He said the FCI godown at Sawombung with a capacity of 10,000 MT (metric tonne) is expected to be completed by December 2017 at an estimated cost of Rs. 16,54,98,645 (sixteen crore fifty four lakh ninety eight thousand six hundred forty five). The FCI godown at Bishnupur will be built with a capacity of 5000 MT(metric tonne).

The Minister was unhappy at the work progress in the hill districts of Chandel, Churachandpur and Tamenglong. The Minister urged the FCS and FCI officials to settle all the disputes which are hindering construction of FCI godown in Tamenglong. He said the construction work which has been awarded to Central Public Works Department (CPWD) is far from satisfaction. The FCI godown at Tamenglong district is estimated with a cost of Rs. 11, 89, 18,300 (Eleven Crore Eighty Nine Lakhs Eighteen Thousand and Three Hundred).

In Chandel district, the 2500 MT (metric tonne) FCI godown will be constructed after finalisation of land and other issues. The Minister said the work progress of MDS (Manipur Development Society) is also not satisfactory in Churachandpur and Thoubal district. He will soon inspect 2500 MT (metric tonne) FCI godown in Churachandpur which is built at an estimated cost of Rs 6, 39, 73,600 (Six Crore Thirty Nine Lakh Seventy Three Thousand and Six Hundred).

Stating FCI godown as assets of the state, the Minister directed the officials and engineers to complete the construction work on time with special emphasis on quality control. CAF & PD Commissioner Shri K. Radhakumar Singh, CAF&PD Director Shri Ranjan Yumnam, Imphal East DC Shri Ningthoujam Geoffrey, Deputy General Manager, FCI Manipur Ksh Thoiba, and other officials accompanied in the inspection.
