Chirom Indira to receive National Award 2015 in Design Development 2015 toward the Promotion of Handloom Products

Chirom Indira W/o Shri Chirom Sanjoy Singh from Thangmeiband Lairenhanjaba Leikai, Imphal, Manipur have been selected for National Award for the year 2015 by O/o Development Commissioner for Handlooms, Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India for her invaluable contribution towards the development of Handloom Sector specially for Design and Development for the Promotion of Handloom Products Category newly instituted by Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India.

Starting this year, the Government of India will confer national awards for excellence in design development and marketing of handloom products.The awards have been instituted in accordance with the advice given by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi , on the occasion of first National Handloom Day on 7th August 2015; the PM said that Ministry of Textiles may institute awards in the fields of Design Development for promotion of handloom products and Marketing of handloom products.

Smt. Chirom Indira, she is the first Indian lady and only one who have receive this precious award for the year 2015 in Design and Development for Promotion of Handloom Products Category. She creates a History in Indian Handloom specially for our Manipur. Since last 22 years she has been working for the development of Handloom Sector specially our North Eastern Region of India. She has visited to many countries for promoting our Handlooms Products.

The award ceremony will be held on National Handloom Day, Dated 7th August, 2016 at Varanasi.

She was also published in ”PRAYAS” a compile success stories published by our Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on 1st National Handloom Day, 7th August 2015 held at Chennai. Her Design and products are also published in TANTAVI Series, 7th Edition by NCTD, O/o DC Handlooms, MoT recently.

She is also a member of ”All India Handloom Board (AIHB), Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India
