Imphal, August 03, 2017 (DIPR): Four police personnel have been put under suspension and the OC of Andro Police Station has been stripped of duties as punishment in connection with the reported custodial death of Mutum (O) Indira (38) of Andro Khuman in Andro Police Station on August 1.

This was informed by Chief Minister Shri N. Biren Singh while making his clarifications on the Calling Attention Motion raised on the issue by Thangmeiband AC MLA Shri Kh. Joykisan at State Assembly today.

Shri N. Biren further informed the House that the State Government would order a Magisterial Inquiry to thoroughly probe the incident soon.

Terming the incident as shocking and unfortunate, the Chief Minister conceded that there must be some negligence on the part of police.

He said that the deceased was arrested in connection with a complaint lodged at the police station regarding missing of a 28-year-old woman, with whom Indira allegedly went out.

Stating that Indira was picked up by police after making an investigation, the Chief Minister said that unfortunately, she was however found hanging dead inside the toilet of the police station.

He further said that local MLA and Forest and Environment Minister Shri Th. Shyamkumar had talked to the Joint Action Committee (JAC) constituted in connection with the incident. (DIPR)
