Sh. Jotishchandra and Ph. Dafneshan of Maria Montessory senior secondary school reading in class X std. display a scientific model entitled Incineration of Solid waste to energy, proving solid waste materials can be used for generation of electric power  at the science meet 2014 being held at Manipur science aquarium organised by MASTEC, Manipur.

The project is developed by the students to generate electric power through proper incineration of solid waste materials. Components like Gasification chamber, Cyclone particulate removal tower, Hydrogen filtration and fuel cell plant, Gas turbine power plant, Filtration and by product processing plant, steam turbine power plant are included in the project.

Working of the project:  First, plastic and other solid waste materials cut by five to ten centimeters put inside the gasification chamber and heated up to 400 degree Celsius with a view to gasifying them into simple gas molecule (syn gas).  Secondly, Solid particles are removed and kept for later use as startup fuel. Thirdly, Gas is passed into hydrogen filtration block.  Fourthly, it is used in hydrogen fuel cell. Gas is passed into gas turbine to produce energy. Fifthly, the heat of the gas is used to boil water to steam to run steam turbine. At last, the gas is refined and filtered to reduce pollution.

According to the students, such a scientific project which aims at generating power through proper and scientifically utilization of solid waste materials available in profuse quantity would benefit the state where there is acute shortage of electric power. The model is designed by them under their school teacher Sanjoy. One uncle of Jotishchandra also helped them a lot while designing the project. They procured the materials from the market and faced some hardships to complete the model in time.
