Higher beneficiary amount for craft and prize money for artisans soon – K. Govindas

Directorate of Commerce and Industries Government of Manipur gives away their annual award to ten outstanding craftsmen and handed over subsidies to beneficiaries. Moreover Govindas Konthoujam Minister of Commerce and Industries has announced a higher amount of cash award and subsidies for craftsperson in Manipur during the prize and subsidy distribution function for beneficiaries held at Iboyaima Sumang Lila Sanglen today the 27th feb. 2014.

In fact Manipur has four lakh handicraft artisans engaged in more than one lakh craft units in Manipur being the highest number of artisans engaged in Handicraft Industries in the Northeast.

A cash award of Rs 20,000 and a citation for 10 State award winning craftsperson. 13 meritorious awardee receiving Rs 8000 each and 23 inspiration awardee with Rs 5000 each in order to promote and push up the moral of the Craftsperson in the State.

A hand out from the department read that 202 persons have got outstanding award since the government started its award giving scheme in 1070’s till date. Besides the merit and inspiration awards.

40 beneficiaries were given Rs 10,000 each under the scheme of modernization of Handicrafts and 60 ex-trainees of handicrafts were honored with Rs 5000 each under the scheme of Assistance to individual Artisans for the year 2013- 14.

The first prize winning craft is under embroidery category, second to Cane and Bamboo, third to Applique Craft, succeeding to Artistic Textiles, Wood Carving, Chumthang Craft, Dolls and Toys, Pottery, Brass and Bell Metal

Ten State Award winners for this year held from Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur,Thoubal, Ukhrul district.

 

Once a crafts person wins State Award, he/she is eligible to implement the Scheme for Guru Sishya Parampara under the office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Government to India. Each and Ecery awardes will enjoy financial assistance @ Rs 1000 per month under the indigenous circumstance from the office of the Development Commissioner (Handicraft) Govt. of India when he attends 60 years upto 85 years.  Till date, 68 crafts person from Manipur are enjoying financial assistance under the said scheme.
