Imphal, September 21, 2017 (DIPR): Social Welfare and Cooperation Minister Smt Nemcha Kipgen today attended a One-Day Cooperative Seminar as a part of Shri Laxman Rao Inamdar Birth Centenary Celebration organised by the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers, Government of India at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. It may be mentioned that Shri Laxman Rao Inamdar was a pioneering leader of cooperation movement in the country.
The Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi graced the occasion as Chief Guest. The function was also attended by Union Minister of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Shri Radha Mohan Singh, Union Ministers of State for Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Shri Parshottam Rupala, Smt. Krishana Raj, and Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Ministers of Cooperation from all participating States, Senior Officials of Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Government of India, and Senior Officials of Department of Cooperation of all participating States. RCS, Manipur H. Rupachandra Singh and Deputy Secretary (Cooperation), Manipur Shri K. Bono Singh represented were the delegates representing the state.
As a part of the commemoration, Renu Handloom Cooperative Society, Mantripukhri of Imphal East District was awarded prestigious National Cooperative Award and the award was handed over by PM Shri Narendra Modi.
Cooperation Minister lauded the achievement of Renu Handloom Cooperative Society. She also expressed that such achievement will encourage many cooperative societies in the state to flourish efficiently. The Minister draws the attention on how the Cooperative Sector has been playing a very important role in the socio-economic development of the country as a whole. As such, it is essential to promote the Cooperative Societies especially in areas where socio-economic developments still lag behind today, especially in State like ours, she asserted.
Various steps have been taken up to overcome many of the challenges by streamlining the existing State level Cooperatives. The government will make all out efforts to implement all important schemes of the Government for the benefit of the people of our State so that visible impacts in our society are witnessed in the near future, Minister said.
Minister Nemcha highlighted that the Cooperative Sector in the State still requires many infrastructural support especially with the creation of 7(seven) new Districts. The existing Cooperatives also require various trainings and supports in terms of strengthening their structure and the mechanisms for enhancing their performances.
The government is now in the process of trying to make appropriate amendments in the State Cooperative Act so that the genuine and active Cooperative Societies can be promoted properly while closing down the formant and defunct ones which are beyond revival. For efficient functioning of the cooperative sectors, Cooperation Minister urge for a more frequent level of interaction amongst the Officials of the various State Governments under the aegis of the Union Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare so that there is a platform for exchange of the best practices of State that are doing well in the Cooperative Sector, she continued.
Minister Nemcha Kipgen firmly believes that with the strong support of the Central Government, joint effort will successfully be carried out for the betterment of especially the poor people who needs improvement in their socio-economic conditions through cooperative efforts. (DIPR)
