Modern Charkha, a scientific model of yarn spinning device displayed by S. Shyamsundar and L. Roshan who are studying in Class eight standard at Ananda Purna school, thoubal at the ongoing Science meet 2014 held at Manipur science aquarium organised by Manipur science and technology council, MASTEC can be operated manually or with electric power.

According to the boys,  their new yarn spinning device having triple Bobbin Spinning is developed to facilitate the handloom industry of the state, which is globally famous for its unique handloom and handicraft products. In traditional Manipuri Tareng, there is single bobbin spinning and weavers consume extra energy and time while reeling yarns for their handloom purposes. However, the new yarn spinning device called Modern charkha designed by them can spin three bobbins simultaneously thus saving extra labour and time. With the same amount of labour input and time consumed in traditional Tareng, one gets triple the output while working on this new spinning device.

The boys are contesting in the science meet 2014 organised by MASTEC under the guidance of their chemistry teacher Mr. Swaminath.
