SCHOOL INFRASTRUCTURE FOR UKHRUL INSPECTED

Imphal, 21st May 2017 (DIPR): Education Minister Shri Th. Radheshyam inspected schools of Ukhrul district. The Minister was anguished to find schools not being built according to the norms of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), Education Guarantee Scheme (EGS) and Alternative and Innovative Education (AIE). He said stringent action will be taken against those who have failed to sincerely carry out the developmental work of the school under SSA, EGS.

The schools supposed to be constructed on the area allocated/provided for school construction through Global Positioning System (GPS) were found to be built somewhere else beyond the permissible distance of EGS. The school as per the EGS was to be built in and around the inaccessible habitation where there is no formal school within the radius of one (1) km.

Under this scheme, the Mayotang Primary School, an EGS upgraded, was found constructed at the Longthang Cemetery, Hundung Village instead of the area allocated at Mayotang. Another Kharaphung Primary School was also found constructed in the midst of wood one and half kilometre down the steep mountain trek from the GPS site. The school was found not functioning though completed in the year 2016 under 2012-13 programme of SSA scheme.

In another visit at the Kazripung High School, the school boundary was found encroached by sand miner. Schools, the Minister said, is the place where children comes to gain knowledge which would enlightened and safeguard the future, bringing progress of not only society and state but for the country as a whole. The leaders of the society, he added, should come forward and stop such unwanted activities in and around the school.

During the visit he look over K.K. Leishiphanit High School, Kasomtang, Pettigrew College Ukhrul, inspected the ongoing construction work of ITI Ukhrul, Modern High School, Greenland Primary School, Tungrei Primary School (Aided), Hungdung also.

On his way back to Imphal, he visited Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya, Shangshak which was found in an isolated condition passing down a steep terrain.

The minister gave assurance to the people residing near Shangshak Government High School constructed in the year 1947, for the renovation of the part of school for the walls were all totally damaged.

The locals felt honoured as this is the first ever visit by a minister who came to inspect the condition of the schools of the district. They said since the Minister had witness the real dilapidated condition of the school they hope he would surely do his best for the betterment of the education.

During his visit he was accompanied by the ZEO Ukhrul, officials of SSA, RMSA and the members of School Management Development Committee (SMDC). (DIPR)
