TREE SAPLINGS PLANTED DURING ‘VANAMAHOTSAVA’ WILL BE CHECKED: MINISTER SHYAMKUMAR

IMPHAL, JULY 10, 2017 (DIPR): Forests and Environment Minister Shri Thounaojam Shyamkumar Singh today said the department after the commencement of the upcoming Assembly Session will start checking on the maintenance and protection of the tree saplings planted which were planted on the occasion of ‘Vanamahotsava’ on July 7, 2017 (Friday).

Speaking to media persons at his office chamber in New Secretariat, Imphal, Th. Shyamkumar said, the Forest Department planted over 1 lakh tree saplings in all the districts, during the observance of ‘Vanamahotsava’. The Forest Department is aiming to plant 10 lakh tree saplings in the month of July, he added.

Th. Shyamkumar assured that protection will be given to all the tree saplings planted on the day of ‘Vanamahotsava’ and those planted by NGOs, student bodies and department officials under the drive of mass scale plantation in this month.

He instructed all the concerned DFOs and other department officials to check all the newly planted tree saplings, adding that action will be taken up if any lapses are found. He further said, under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri N. Biren Singh the department has been streamlined and revenue is being collected per the guidelines.

Minister Shyamkumar further informed the media persons that he visited the Keibul Lamjao National Park, Bishnupur district in the morning following reports of water level rising in some areas. Assuring that there is no danger to the natural habitat of Sangai, Minister Shyamkumar said, tree saplings were planted at the Keibul Lamjao National Park. (DIPR)
