GOVERNMENT PROVIDES TRANSPORTATION FACILITY FOR GENERAL PUBLIC

Imphal, the April 22nd, 2017 (DIPR): Khongjom Day will be observed on April 23, 2017 at Khebaching (Khongjom) in Thoubal District to pay tribute to the brave sons of Manipur who made supreme sacrifices for the cause of their motherland in the Anglo-Manipur War, 1891.

On the occasion, hon’ble Governor of Manipur Dr. Najma A. Heptulla and the Chief Minister Shri N. Biren Singh will grace the function as the Chief Guest and the President respectively. They will lead the public in laying of flower wreaths at Khongjom War Memorial. This will be followed by a guard of honour, general salute, reverse arms, sounding of last post, 2 minutes silence, slope arms and order arms by a contingent of Manipur Rifles. There will also be laying of flower wreaths at the statue of Paona Brajabashi and a gun salute at the Statue. This will be followed by offering of Tarpon at Khongjom River and paying of homage to the Sankirtan by the VVIPs. Apart from staging Drama ‘Khongjom Lal’ (Khongjom War) by Art & Culture Deptt., Khongjom Parva recital will also be performed.

The observance will last the whole day and the function will be attended by Ministers, MLAs, top ranking civil and police officials and a large number of people from different parts of the State.

Education Minister Shri Th. Radheshyam Singh will give the welcome address while Shri Shyam Lal Poonia, DC, Thoubal will propose the vote of thanks in the function.

Five  (plus) SLF Buses/ Ordinary Buses shall be lined up at 6.30 am on 23/04/2017 along NH-39 near the eastern side of 1st  Bn. M. R parade Ground and in front of  MSRTC Complex, Moirangkhom for transportation of general public / devotees upto Kheba Ching and back after the celebration of Khongjom Day 2017 is over.

Further, two numbers of SLF Buses shall also be deployed for picking up devotees/ general public from Koirengei, Chingmeirong, Porompat and Naoremthong junctions from 6.30 am onwards and shall proceed upto Kheba Ching by 7.30 am from Imphal.

All are earnestly appealed to avail the free transportation facility duly arranged by the Government from 6.30 am to 8.30 am from Imphal to Kheba Ching and back.
