GST TO GENERATE RS. 150 TO RS. 200 CRORE ANUALLY: FINANCE MINISTER

Imphal, August 3, 2017 (DIPR): The State Government will be able to generate revenue of around Rs 150 crore to Rs 200 crore annually under Goods and Services Tax (GST).

This was informed by Deputy Chief Minister Shri Yumnam Joykumar, who is also the Finance in-charge, while responding to a starred question raised by Khangabok AC MLA Shri Surjakumar Okram during Question Hour of the ongoing Assembly session today.

The Deputy Chief Minister said that the State is likely to get an increased amount of Rs 103 crore on account of GST revenue compensation assured under GST Compensation Act.

He said that 4100 dealers have been registered in the State under the new tax regime so far.

Out of these 4100 dealers, 2800 dealers migrated from VAT regime and the remaining 1300 had registered under GST, Shri Joykumar informed.

Stating that the revenue impact of GST would be positive, he observed that the State would gain from the GST Bill.

Responding to a poser raised by Kakching AC MLA Shri Y. Surchandra, the Deputy Chief Minister stated that a total debt of Rs. 7774.42 crore is being incurred by the State.

He also informed the House that the State currently spends Rs. 153 crore in Debt Service every month, out of which Rs. 110.63 crore is Principal amount and Rs. 42.37 crore is interest.

Replying to a starred question asked by Sagolband AC MLA Shri RK Imo, Education Minister Shri Th. Radheshyam said that the Government would implement the recommendations of the 6th Pay Commission with respect to the salary of Government Aided schools when the financial health of the State Government improves.

Giving his reply to a starred question of Ukhrul AC MLA Alfred K. Arthur, the Education Minister said that Ukhrul district has 132 Government schools and one Government college.

He further said that the total number of Government school students of the district is 9741.

Responding to a query asked by Thangmeiband AC MLA Kh. Joykisan, Works Minister Shri Th. Biswajit informed that Public Works Department (PWD) allows execution of work before the work order is given in some works of emergency nature under relevant clauses of CPWD manual.

Replying a poser raised by Thangmeiband AC MLA Shri Kh. Joykisan, MAHUD Minister Shri Th. Shyamkumar said that Rs. 11.60 lakhs had been sanctioned to install solar lamps in 27 Wards of Imphal Municipal Council except Ward No. 8. (DIPR)
