POSITIVE CHANGES COMING UP IN THE HILLS: N. KAYISII

Imphal; June 21, 2017 (DIPR): “The Government has started bringing positive changes in the hills under the leadership of the incumbent Chief Minister N. Biren Singh”, Shri N. Kayisii, Minister, Tribal Affairs & Hills stated while rendering the Chief Guest’s speech. The TD Minister was attending the 38th Foundation Day Celebration of the Manipur Tribal Development Corporation Ltd. (MTDC) held today at MTDC Office Complex located at Lamphelpat, Imphal.

Kayisii further stated that MTDC can take a vital role in bringing such positive changes and developments in the hills. He exhorted upon the engineers and staff of MTDC to be positive in their approach and co-operate with each other while discharging their duty. The TD Minister assured that he will extend maximum help and support to MTDC for the upliftment and welfare of the tribal people.

Acknowledging the presentation of cash rewards to two Grade IV employees of MTDC as a noble and significant gesture, Parliamentary Secretary, Planning & Transport, Shri Khashim Vashum, who was present as the Guest of Honour, expressed that MTDC has the potential to be amongst the best corporations in the country. He exclusively credited the employees of MTDC for bringing up the Corporation to this level. The Parl. Secretary appealed to the contractors and the engineers and staff of MTDC to co-operate and work with sacrifice and discipline.

Functional President of today’s celebration, Shri Vungzagin Valte, Chairman, MTDC stated that Manipur Tribal Development Corporation Ltd. (MTDC), which is an instrument that bridges the hills and the valley, was set up for the benefit of the tribal and scheduled caste people in the State. Applauding the collective effort of the engineers and staff of MTDC, Vungzagin added that there’s still a lot to do for the development and welfare of the tribal and scheduled caste people in the State, and we need to go extra miles for it. He opined that providing proper market linkage and banking facility in the hill areas will make the hill people more productive and prosperous. He appealed the Central and State Governments to support MTDC in this regard.

The Foundation Day celebration was also attended by Commissioner (TAH) and Managing Director, MTDC Shri T. Pamei, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Pherzawl Shri A. Tombikanta, IAS, Director (TAH), Jt. Director (TAH), General Manager, MTDC, engineers and staff of MTDC, officers and staff of TAH Department, Bank Managers and ADC Members amongst others.

The highlight of today’s celebration was the presentation of cash rewards of Rs. 5000 each to two Grade IV employees of MTDC, and the melodious songs presentation by the young renowned tribal singers.

The Manipur Tribal Development Corporation Ltd. (MTDC) was set up on 21st June, 1979 as an autonomous body administered by the State Government through its Tribal Affairs, Hills & Scheduled Castes Department working for the socio-economic upliftment of the Tribal and Scheduled Caste people in the State of Manipur.

The MTDC is one of the leading State PSUs functioning as Work Agency executing civil construction works of various departments. MTDC has executed works involving around Rs. 330 crores of the State Government and Central Govt. Organisations during the last 3 to 4 years. Apart from State Government Departments, MTDC has taken up various deposit works from outside the State, viz – Airport Authority of India’s Development and Operationalization of Tezu Airport, Arunachal Pradesh and Construction of Radar Building at Imphal International Airport, Construction of Toilets in schools in Assam under CSR Programme for Swachh Bharat, Kamrup District, Construction of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangasthan (KVS), Bhakli, Haryana under Ministry of HRD. In the near future, MTDC is planning to open branch offices outside the State and take up more deposit works.

Initially, MTDC has been functioning as the State Channelizing Agency (SCA) for National Apex Corporation for implementation of General Term Loans/Schemes broadly classified as Farming, Non-farming and Transport Sector, and has benefited about 2000 tribal and SC beneficiaries. Presently the Corporation is providing free Skill Development Training Programmes to the STs/SCs in order to give them gainful sustainable livelihood. (DIPR)
