TDSL (Tourism Development Society Langol) hosted the USPA (United States Polo Association) women’s polo team and their officials for a cultural program and village experience in the evening at Langol near Shija Hospitals on 18th January 2016. The group was also accompanied by a team from the travel magazine, the Conde Nast Traveller. Set in the hillock dwellings, the warmth of the local people and the bonfire created an ideal tribal setting for the cultural dances. Amateur groups showcased the tribal spring dances of Tangkhuls and the Zeliangrongs. The intoxicating beat of the drums and the jubilant dance of the youth mersmerised the visitors who were drawn into the dance to try some of the steps. Local girls adorned the American ladies with the tribal head dress and jewellery and all other visitors joined in the dance with drum beat. An environment of camaraderie, friendship, cultural exchanges and human touch emerged spontaneously in the congenial atmosphere. Later the village ladies served local dishes to the guests. The evening concluded with the visitors trekking half way up the Langol hills in the moonlight to savour the stunning beauty of the Imphal valley during the night. The visitors left with anincredible experience of hospitality of Manipur and an experience never to forget in their lives.
