Mass Rally cum public meeting on crime against Humanity held. Ever since my husband was shot dead on Jan 8, 2006 I have struggled a lot. I did all kind of odd jobs to raise my two kids. I work for their proper education I nurture and care them. Now I am an elected member of Thongju Part 2, Gram Panchayat for two consecutive terms. I think my neighbours locality and people love and like me says Brojeshwori Longjam who is just 35 years old. His husband was shot dead by Security forces at DM College Campus and she suspect that her husband was shot dead for some amount of money he carried along on that unfortunate day. The above interview piece was taken during “Mass Rally cum public meeting on crime against Humanity” held today at Khurai Lai Wangma Community Hall. A rally participated by victim families of conflict, volunteers and members of several civil society and NGO’s took off from Khurai and covered some parts of Imphal East passing through Soibam Leikai, Nongmeibung etc. Homen Thangjam a social activist spoke on the occasion that Manipur was made a killing field for certain benefit by some people. A Hitler syndrome and modus operandi where one clinch promotion and cash when one man is down and another man is shot. And humanity is a far cry. The banners of today’s rally read, 1) No AFSPA YES LIVE 2) WE WANT JUSTICE 3) RESPECT HUMAN RIGHT SAVE GENERATION 4) REMOVE AFSPA SAVE MANIPUR 5) SOLVE PENDING CASE 6) PROTECT HUMAN RIGHTS 7) HANG SATYABAMA KILLERS 8)DONOT TREAT WOMEN AS COMMODITY 9) SAFETY AND SECURITY TO WOMEN 10) ENSURE WOMEN FRIENDLY TRANSPORT SYSTEM. A joint memorandum was also submitted today to Dr Manmohan Singh, Prime Minister of India in regards to rising crime against women and children and prolong imposition of AFSPA, 1958 in Manipur says the organisers. The memorandum was submitted jointly by CoWF, SSG,WEJ, VWCOC, HAWWA and KKLPPL who are civil society organisation working for the welfare of the conflict victims and campaigning for human rights in Manipur.
