MANIPURI documentary film “Gun and a God” directed by Sonia Nepram has been selected for the prestigious Mumbai Women’s International Film Festival (MWIFF) 2013.
“Gun and a God” is Sonia Nepram’s directorial debut and was released online on the 22nd March on Vimeo first and later in YouTube as it received a major viewership. The film is about the journey of a woman who was victimized by the structural violence of the society. She then found her voice in a gun and justice in a god. It portrays the face of Manipuri women who goes through of layers of struggle.
The film is an independent production of One Inch Production. Akee Sorokhaibam is the cameraperson as well as the editor of the film. This thirty one minute long film took one year to complete including the pre and post production. The post production was done at Heima! Films.
Mumbai Women’s International Film Festival (MWIFF) is a 7-Day film festival, organized by Oculus Creations (a division of Dollphins Interactive Sciences Pvt.Ltd for giving an international platform to women who has a key-role in adaptation of the art form of Film-making as a director or writer, editor, cinematographer etc. Seventy documentary films from seventy nations will be screened during the biggest Women’s Film Festival in India.
The Director, Sonia Nepram did her Masters in Mass Communication from Jamia Milia Islamia, New Delhi and had received special mention awards for her student film “Limited Edition” in St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata, Silver in Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai and stood Second in the Students’ International Film Festival held in Indraprastha College, Delhi. It was also screened in the Jeevika Asia Livelihood Film Festival, 2010. She had also recently participated in the Film Appreciation Course, 2013 organised by the Film and Television Institute of India and National Film Archive of India.
She will attend the Film Festival in Mumbai which will be held from 8th to 14th October, 2013.
