Manipur, a like a mini India, has rich aesthetic culture and traditional dress of different ethnics unexplored. The state can develop economy by making itself a big fashion industry through exposing these aesthetic cultural values, said Manipur’s Deputy CM, Gaikhangam.
Deputy CM Gaikhangam was speaking as chief guest at the inaugural function of the winter 2nd edition of Manipur Fashion extravaganza presented by Robert Naorem creation held at 1st Manipur rifles ground, imphal here today.
“It is not time to sleep. We all need to expose our beautiful culture and traditional dress to the outside world. Our cultural values are not less than that of others. Lack of promotion of our cultural values has lost our chances to be one of the biggest fashion industries”, added Gaikhangam while applauding the works of Robert Naorem, the fashion designer, who tries to promote fashion industry in the state.
Govindas Konthoujam, Minister, Commerce and Industries, I. Hemochandra Singh, Minister, PHED also participated the event as functional president and Guest of honour respectively.
Minister Govindas said his department too dreams to make the state a big fashion industry and is all set to promote the handloom and handicrafts of the state. Steps have been taken up to encourage the entrepreneurs of the state with financial packages and necessary infrastructures.
At least, 10 designers including one from Bhutan are participating in the Manipur fashion extravaganza. Deputy CM facilitated the models coming from Bhutan by bus with gifts.
