With the discovery of suspended greenish algae and Fungus in packaged drinking water Evoke brand manufactured by one Imphal based company Bisra Aqua Minerals, Imphal west food safety wing has banned the company’s product and intimated the government for strict action against the firm.
Addressing the media persons at Health Directorate, Lamphelpat, designated officer of Imphal west food safety wing S. Binodkumari Devi who is also the CMO, Imphal west said that an official team of Imphal west food safety wing conducted a raid at one shop located near Tiddim ground at about 11 am this morning and collected the packaged drinking water bottles containing harmful suspended particles of greenish algae and fungus.
The food safety standard act empowers the officials of food safety department to ban and cancel the license of any company if the food stuffs or consumable items manufactured by them are found containing adulterants or harmful suspended particles with charging them a fine upto five Lakhs. The packaged drinking water bottles “Evoke” seized by the officials today do not contain printed batch no. Apart from this, the license issued to the company by this department on 22 february 2012 is also found outdated. Any company should get their License renewed every year, she said.
Bisra Aqua minerals company is run by one Thounaojam Romila from its manufacturing unit located at Takyel Industrial estate, Imphal west.
The water samples seized today will be sent to the laboratory for further investigation. Cancelation of license issued to the company will be decided as per the result shown by the laboratory, she said and appealed the general people to avoid drinking the brand of the said company while the investigation is in process.
