The scientific project “cyclic washing machine” developed and displayed by two students, Arambam Shaanta and Md. Akibuddin choudhuri who are reading in class eight standard at Brighter Academy, New checkon at the ongoing scientific model exhibition with regard to science meet 2014 organized by the Manipur science and technology council, MASTEC can wash and dry up dirty clothes just by spinning the handle manually.
Their model comprises a cycle crank, handle, bearing, cycle chain, washing chamber, revolving spokes inside the washing chamber, drier and outlet vessel and so on. According to the boys, as for operation of their new scientific model “cyclic washing machine” electric power is not required at all. One can wash their dirty clothes just by half spinning the handle manually. When the handle spins, the revolving spokes inside the washing chamber too revolves along with the clothes. After this process, the wet clothes are dried up with the help of drier device by squeezing. The washing machine model which is quite cost effective for the marginalized people not only prevents harmful effects that may cause to our hands while direct contacting with the water contained detergent, said the boys.
They used to see the electric power operated washing machines lying defunct most of the time due to irregular power supply in the state. They felt of bringing out a new washing machine that can be operated manually without electric power. They started their venture on this new device under the guidance of one Maths teacher Mr. Sanjoy Singh of Brighter academy. Materials like Iron frames, bearing, cycle crank and chain etc. were procured from the market and sent to a workshop for wielding.
