Integrated Child Development Scheme(ICDS) Cell, Chandel is trying to improve the health of young mothers and children in the district, said Mrs. Th. Mangijaobi Devi, District Programme Officer.
She was speaking in the afternoon session of the second day of the three -day Bharat Nirman Public Information Campaign being held at Koshang Memorial Community Hall at Khangshim village in Chandel district. The campaign is organised by Press Information Bureau, Imphal in collaboration with other sister organisations.
Mrs. Mangijaobi Devi said that there are five CDPOs and Project Supervisors under the ICDS Cell, Chandel in the district. They are based at Chandel, Chakpikarong, Khengjoi, Machi and Tengnoupal Sub Divisions. There are 545 Anganwadi Centers and 544 Anganwadi Workers and Helpers in the district. However, in Chandel Sub Division, 35 Anganwadi Centers are not working, in Machi Sub Division 42 AWCs are not working, and 139 AWCs are non functional in Khengjoi . As Khengjoi is located in the remotest area, it has been difficult to operate the AWCs.
Even though the funds for the district ICDS Cell are very low, the Cell is trying hard to render its service in the best manner possible, she said adding that it is an important scheme which endeavours to directly help the young mothers and children live healthy by giving them nutritious food and health tips.
The ICDS, Chandel Cell is giving training to the expectant mothers on nutrition and child rearing, the CDPO said and appealed to the people of the district to cooperate and inform the Cell whenever and wherever there is shortage in service or supply of food. Yet as supply from the head office is low, everyone cannot be satisfied, she lamented.
