Imphal’ May 3: Shija Hospitals and Research Institute, Langol, Imphal West has become the first private hospital in Manipur to be recognized/empaneled as a referral hospital by the Government of Manipur vide its order No. 31/42/2017-M(Misc) dated 30 th April 2018 for the purpose of medical treatment of Manipur State Government employees and their dependent family members while undergoing Renal/Kidney Transplant, Dialysis and all investigations related to the aforesaid treatments.
It is worth mentioning that the first successful kidney transplant surgery in Manipur was performed by Shija Institute of Renal Sciences in 2016 and till date 21 patients, 17 from Manipur and 5 from Nagaland have undergone successful kidney transplants. It is the only private centre in the State having full time Nephrologist and Urologist.
The Department of Nephrology is one of the most advanced in this region providing treatment to patients suffering from all types of kidney diseases from acute to complicated renal failures. The centre provides comprehensive care for kidney diseases such as haemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, emergency dialysis, SLED (Sustained Low Efficiency Dialysis) for hypotensive patients, kidney biopsy, hemoperfusion for poisoning,ABG, continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) for critically ill patients in ICU etc.
Department of urology has advanced facilities for diagnosis and treatment of urological disorders such as stones in the kidney, ureter, urinary bladder, Pelvi-Ureteric Junction Obstruction, Ureteric strictures and reconstructive surgery, Kidney, Ureter and Urinary Bladder tumours, Prostatic surgery, removal of Kidney, part of kidney. The department has credits of performing Laparoscopic Nephrectomy for the first time in Manipur in the year 2006. First Laparoscopic Pyeloplasty for PUJO in Manipur was also performed by the department in 2015 and so far it is the only centre in Manipur where advanced laparoscopic facility expertise is available and is being performed routinely.Retrograde Intra Renal Surgery (RIRS), the most patient friendly treatment for kidney and ureter was also introduced for the first time in Manipur (2012) with the installation of Holmium LASER (Germany).
