IMPHAL, September 24: For the first time, Shija Hospitals & Research Institute Pvt. Ltd, as a part of its continuing Mission Myanmar, has trained eight Myanmarese medical professionals including two Doctors and six Nurses during two month long Shija Overseas Training programme.
The Myanmarese medical team from Monwa General Hospital located in Sagaing region has been undergoing training at the Shija Hospial for two months. Expert Doctors of the Shija Hospital trained the medical team with advanced technical knowhow and inputs in the field of Laparoscopic surgery, Gynecological, Neurological, plastic sugery and others.
On successful completion of the two months training programme, the medical team from the neighboring country were felicitated today in a function held at the Auditorium of Shija Hospital, Langol with state Works and Transport Minister Dr. Kh Ratankumar as the chief guest.
Speaking to the gathering, Works Minister Ratankumar said that the initiative of the Shija Hospital in reaching out its health care facilities to the neighboring country Myanmar has strengthened the goodwill between the two countries.
Stating that a draft protocol between the representatives of India and Mynamar officials regarding introduction of Imphal to Mandalay Bus service was prepared in a meeting held in June this year, he said India has finalized the draft protocol while its counterpart Myanmar is yet to finalise it. The bus service will start as and when the counterpart Myanmarese officials finalize the said agreement as well as the undergoing road repairing works and bridge construction on the part of Myanmar are successfully completed, said the Minister.
He also said that state government is exerting pressure on the centre to introduce VISA on arrival facility shortly to allow access of Myanmar nationals in the country comfortably.
Chairman of Shija Hospital Dr Palin said that Shija hospitals initiated its Mission Myanmar with the objectives of providing health care facilities and trainings to the country while strengthening goodwill between the two neighboring countries. In health care sector, Manipur state has big scope in south east asia.
Since the state lacks good medical facilities, every year, many medical, para medical students, Nurses of the state are going outside for undergoing professional training investing huge money while 5000 patients going outside for advanced treatment. In doing so, the state throws out more than 500 crores in a year. Economy of the state can be saved if the huge money thrown to outside is utilized in developing the health care sector of the state, he said and added that Shija hospital has put in all efforts to promote its health care facilities with installation of more advanced technologies and inputs.
Lamenting that frequent harassment meted out to the Mynmar nationals coming to the state for treatment by the Indian on the highway has reduced the growth of medical tourism, he appealed the government to introduce VISA on arrival and Bus service without further delay.
Dr Dili Gode, president of Association of Minimal Access Surgeons of India also attended the function.
