Imphal June 30: Maisnam Karnajit, staff reporter of Hueiyen Lanpao daily, was awarded the RK Sanatomba Memorial Journalist Award for the year 2014 instituted by RK Sanatomba Memorial Trust. The award given to outstanding journalists of the state every year since 2004 in the field of investigative reporting include a cash prize of Rs.20,000, citation and Shawl.
Organised by the RK Sanatomba Memorial Trust, the award presentation ceremony was held at JN Manipur dance Akademy, Imphal. Mangishija, mother of late RK Sanatomba, handed over the award to Maisnam Karnajit for his outstanding investigative reportage in the year 2013.
The function was attended by Professor Gangmumei Kamei and social-worker Thounaojam Iboyaima among many others. The second issue of the Volume VIII of Kangla Lanpung, a journal which the late RK Sanatomba edited, was also released. Professor Arambam Lokendra gave his resourceful speech on the topic ‘Violence and performing Arts in Manipur’.
With view to encourage the journalist to write and express the happenings around our present society sincerely, honestly and fearlessly, such an award was initiated by the RK Sanatomba memorial trust since 2004. The role of journalists in bringing a positive social change by way of awakening the masses is great, said RK Nimai, Chairman of the Trust who is also the commissioner Arts and culture, Department Government of Manipur.
Social-worker Th. Iboyaima said that strengthening the media, which is the fourth pillar will help develop the society. Journalists need to work sincerely and fearlessly as most people keep their faith to the media.
