Khangminashi-IV at Slopeland Public School,Khongjom

2nd June 2018 : Kanglei Khongyang Thijinyon (KKT), Imphal, an advanced research centre, is an initiative under the joint collaboration of The Longjam Trust, Khumbong and The Meitram Foundation, Imphal. The main objective of the centre is to perform high end research in the field of science and technology and to set up a state-of-the-art research facility considering the vast biodiversity in the state. As a part of the Science communication program of KKT, Imphal, the fourth interaction program of the lecture series entitled “Khangminashi” was conducted on 2nd June 2018 at the premises of Slopeland Public School, Khongjom. The program was initiated with the felicitation of the guests by the Director of KKT, Imphal.

Dr L. Jaideva Angom, Director, KKT, Imphal introduced the objectives of the program, Khangminashi and the need of such interaction program where the budding minds of the state are enlightened about various high-end research activities in different scientific domains. He also gave a brief history of the Khangminashi Lecture series. Mr Madhumangol, Vice Principal, Slopeland Public School, Khongjom appreciate the organizers of Khangminashi program for introducing such an interactive series on the soil of Manipur which gives an insight into the various profession thereby giving the students an opportunity to think about what to look forward after the examinations.

Mr Kulabidhu Chanam, Petroleum Geoscientist, Schlumberger, Mumbai graced the function as the scientific resource person of the Khangminashi-IV. He talked on the topic “Oil and Gas Exploration” and enlightened the 200 strong audiences about the various ways of extracting petroleum products from oil fields. He also shared his two decade experience of dealing with various aspects of petroleum product extraction. He also mentioned about the different places that he had travelled all over the world being a geoscientist and clearing the general perception of the public towards a scientist being confined in a laboratory. He also elaborated about the various career options apart from the general basic sciences.

The audience was kept intact with a very interactive quiz program by Mr Prakashanant Moirangthem. Prof Kharibam Somorendro, VAMNICOM, Pune (Former Director, ICM Imphal, Lamphel) was also invited as the Guest speaker of the function and he talked about leadership and communication skill being the mandatory requirements for a person to be successful in life. The interaction program lasted about 4 hours with the students clearing all their doubts. Dr Bharati Meitram gave the vote of thanks followed by light refreshment.
