IMPHAL, August 5: Strongly denouncing repeated verbal assault and blocking of free movement of the scribes covering news by the ILP bandh supporters, Print and electronic media houses in Manipur have unanimously resolved to stop publication of newspapers on August 6.
The decision to stop publication of newspapers was taken in a General body meeting held at Manipur Press Club under the aegis of All Manipur Working Journalists Union (AMWJU) and Editors’ Guild.
Local TV channels ISTV and Impact TV also will not telecast any news tomorrow endorsing the resolution of the scribe bodies.
With the ILP bandh supporters repeatedly disturbing the journalist on duty by blocking free movement during bandh, journalists in the state were compelled to adopt the resolution.
The general body meeting was attended by many reporters, editors of different media houses in Manipur. The meeting strongly condemned the “excessive behavior” of the bandh supporters meted out to the journalists.
A joint statement issued by Editors Guild Manipur and AMWJU has appealed to the people to allow free movements of the journalists to perform their duties.
