Imphal, January 21: Expressing concern over the recent abduction of labourers engaged in blacktopping works by an UG outfit for ransom, Speaker of Manipur legislative Assembly Th. Lokeshor today lambasted the culprits involved in kidnapping cases while appealing the masses not to support the kidnappers.
Speaking to the gathering of one day Public awareness programme on Nirmal bharat abhiyan and National rural drinking water programme organised by PHED department at Haraorou Tangkham village ground, Imphal east, a highly annoyed Speaker Th. Lokeshor said, “kidnapping of labourers only for ransom is an obstruction on the way to development of the state. People should not extend support to the illegal activities of the kidnappers in any manner”.
He went on to say that development of the state will be possible only when the various ethnic groups settling in the state are united and work together. If not, all will sink together in the sea of grief. People need to support the police for punishing the culprit. Without public co-operation, Government alone cannot take up action.
He assured the villagers of Haraorou Tangkham for provision of 24×7 water supply facility under national rural drinking water programme for the first time in the state and construction of 185 sanitary latrines for each household in the village under Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan.
Swamikanta, Director of CCDU, Manipur, said that people gives priority to Mobile phone rather than sanitary latrine which is utmost necessary for health care. Almost human disease arise out of sanitary problem. For good health, keeping the environment neat and tidy is utmost important. He appealed the gathering to construct sanitary latrine with the financial assistance from the Government.
