Foreign body successfully removed at Shija Hospitals

HealthCity, Langol, March 26 : In yet another medical feat of Manipur, a 9 (nine) cm long needle (accidental injury) inside the lung of a girl was removed successfully through Key Hole Surgery on 23rd March, 2015 at Shija Hospitals, HealthCity, Langol, Imphal by a team led by Dr. Kh. Devendra, Consultant Surgeon & AMASI (Association of Minimal Access Surgeons of India) National Faculty and Anaesthesia & Critical Care team led by Prof. P. Nishikanta Singh. Three half cm incisions were made to visualize the needle and remove it.

C-Arm machine (real time X-Ray imaging system) which was installed at Shija Hospitals for the first time in Manipur in 1998 was used during the said operation. An attempt was already made to removed it through open surgery elsewhere outside Manipur but unsuccessful.

It may be mentioned that Shija Hospitals brought the technology of Key Hole Surgery for the first time in Manipur in 1996. Till date more than 19000 key hole surgeries have been performed successfully and still counting.

The girl recovered and discharged from the hospital on 25th March, 2015.
