M/S Raremind Mushroom Processing Centre is a joint venture of five like-minded educated unemployed youths. The processing farm of the centre is located at Khongman Zone-II while the main office at Wangkhei Thangjam Leikai.
Leishangthem Elyson S/o L Tiken from Wangkhei Thangjam Leikai, Pyas Yumnam of Khongman Zone IV, Ningombam Surjit of Khongman Zone 2, Wangkheimayum Surjoy of Wangkhei and Aribam Babu Sharma of Bamon Leikai are the key partners of the budding mushroom farm of the state.
All the budding entrepreneurs are Masters degree holders. They were once classmates from Nursery to Class X at St George High School, Wangkhei.
In 2006, the five like-minded and courageous men united themselves and formed a society called M/S Raremind Mushroom Processing Centre with an aim to start production of mushroom and other food items which are on high demand in the state.
“Despite our willingness to start a company under a joint venture, we could not fulfil our dream as we did not have enough capital and the technical know-how and inputs involved in initiating such a business for a long time. To start up the business, every partner shared Rs 20,000 each. Now, we have started reaping fruits of our hard work,” said Leishangthem Elyson, president of M/S Raremind Mushroom Processing Centre.
Being an FSSAI certified farm under register no 21615002000075, it is now successful in producing various food items including fresh Oyster mushroom, Uchina, dry Oyster mushroom, Kanglayen (split gill mushroom), dry amla, mushroom pickle, soybean and king chilly pickle, fish pickle, chicken pickle, king chilly pickle, bamboo shoot pickle, garlic pickle and fermented fish.
They can produce 30 to 40 kgs of mushroom a day which is sold at Rs 100 per kg. The farm has been able to provide employment to two people.
“Why should we wait for only white collar jobs. There are ample opportunities for livelihood if we cultivate work culture. The state will be economically self reliant only when the youth become courageous entrepreneurs”, said Elyson.
