Imphal, Feb 11, 2014: Yumlembam Sapana Devi who bagged one gold and three silver medals in the 3rd International Lusofonia Wushu Championship held at Goa, was facilitated by the locals of Keirao, Irilbung Machahal, Kalika and Langdum village.
Sapana Devi grabbed one gold medal and three silver medals in the 3rd International Lusofonia Wushu Championship 2014 held at Peddem Multipurpose Complex, Goa from 18th to 29th January. She piped her opponent Lei Weng Si of Macau, China in the event of Guanshu by .02 points for the Gold medal and another three silver medals in the event of Daoshu, Dual and Chanquan. In the said championship, India won overall team champion in the tournament with 37 Gold, 27 silver and 28 bronze. Ten countries participated in the tournament.
Athlete Sapana is the second daughter among seven siblings of Late Yumlembam Sanatomba and Yumlembam ongbi Jamini Devi from Keirao Awang Leikai, Imphal east.
The facilitation function held at Keirao was organized by the Irilbung Youth club, Irilbung Library Union, Youth Development Center Club, Lital Makhong Youth Club, Meira paibi organization and M. Yaskul Meitei, Director CAF and PD.
Apart from this, in the 22nd senior national men and women Wushu championship held at Indoor S.M.S. Stadium Jaipu, Rajasthan from 6th to 10th Jan 2014, organized by Rajasthan Wushu Association, Sapana won four Gold medals in the event of Chanquan,Taiji Jian, Quiangshu and Dual respectively. She has been selected to undergo trial Selection camp of Indian wushu team for the Asian Games to be held at Korea in August this year. In 2010, She took the gold medal in the Junior world Wushu Championship held at Singapore.
