A typical feature of Maring traditional house is the rounded end portion. The thatch-roofing is reinforced with extra capping of thatch, tightly bound with bamboo splits, along the ridge of the roof to strengthen the roof against strong with and rain. The front side of the house has an extended enclosed portico where large storage baskets for containing paddy are kept.
Found in front of the Maring traditional houase is an artisan called K. P. Leidong (about 70 years old) from Sandang Senba performing live demonstration of the making of traditional baskets called “maring thumok” and “maring polang”. He is a father of four sons and 5 daughters. He has visited places like Delhi and Bhopal for live demonstration on the making Maring handicraft products. He is available in front of the Maring traditional house from 10 am to 7 pm everyday during the Manipur Sangai Festival 2015.
