1 ST YONGCHAK PLANTATION FESTIVAL AT MAKHAN VILLAGE

MPHAL, May 7, 2017 (DIPR): Makhan Village in Senapati District is going to host a 6-Day Yongchak Plantation Festival from 8 th to 13 th May, 2017. The Inaugural function of the festival will be held on May 8, 2017 at Ekhratotsufii (Makhan Centre). The festival is being organized jointly by All Makhan Women’s Society and Khrasi Welfare Forum. The main objective of the festival is to give awareness to the people the importance of yongchak, and that plantation of yongchak will not only bring sustainable development and but also help in combating climate change. Cultivation of yongchak could also enhance their economy and living standard. The festival will also showcase to the people the health benefits of yongchak. Makhan which is located along the NH-2 has been a thriving place for the yongchak trees locally known as ‘Siihrapree’ over the last few decades.
