2-DAYS ORIENTATION PROGRAMME ON SELF HELP GROUP FORMATION BEGIN

IMPHAL, 25th APRIL, 2017 (DIPR): A 2-day Orientation Programme on Self Help Group Formation and Linkages with Banks began today at Lamshang Community Hall, Lamshang.  The Orientation programme is being organised by the KVK Imphal West, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Manipur Centre, Lamphelpat, Imphal, in association with NABARD, Manipur Region, National Co-operative Union of India (Women Wing), Manipur State Co-operative Bank Limited, Imphal. Altogether 40 Self Help Groups (SHGs) formed under Taothong Multipurpose Development Farmers’ club are taking part in the programme.

Speaking at the inaugural function as Chief Guest, Shri S. Rajen Singh, Deputy Chairman, State Planning Board, Manipur, said that those who know how to go along with the Banks will only prosper in the long run. Bank will come to ones’ doorstep when one follows the rules and regulations of the Bank properly. Organising such training programme will be of great help to the women of the different SHGs in managing and maintaining their economic activities. Womenfolk in their leisure time can work to earn income through formation of SHGs and help the family as a family can only be self sustained and live peacefully when both men and women worked together, he added. He also appealed to all the participants to form SHGs to generate income for overall development and not just for namesake. SHGs should take opportunity to get the benefits given by the Banks.

Further, he suggested organising a 45-day training programme on handloom and handicraft for SHGs to improve their skills in producing handloom and handicraft items in the State. There will be no problem for marketing as the Government Handloom and Handicrafts Department will procure the products. During the training session stipend will be given to all the trainees. SHGs will be form after completion of the training with a small loan with low interest. Expressing his gratitude to the Organisers he asked the resource persons to enlighten all the participants about the formation and functioning of a SHG and the benefits that they can get from Banks and Micro-financing agencies. 

Smt. N. Ranjana Devi, Director, Institute of Cooperative Management, Smt N. Guite, Deputy General Manager, NABARD Manipur Region, Shri Angoutombi Singh, Deputy General Manager, Manipur State Cooperative Bank and Dr. N. Prakash, Joint Director, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Manipur Centre, attended the inaugural function as Guests of Honour and President respectively. Speakers of the function stressed on the need to work in group to manage their source of income in an easier and profitable manner. They also put forth on the benefits given by banks in earning a livelihood and in empowering women through income generation.   

In the technical session, resource persons talked on SHG-Bank Linkages, Empowerment of Women through SHGs, Records and Book Keeping and Importance of Leadership and Cooperation in SHGs. Registers to maintain account record of the SHGs were also distributed to all the participants as part of the programme. (DIPR)
