Imphal, 01 May, 2017, DIPR: The ‘10thFoundation Day cum May Day Celebration’ was organised by the Kanglei Economic Development Organisation (KEDO) at the Khwairamband Ima Keithel, Imphal today. Speaking as the Chief Guest of the function, Shri Th. Shyamkumar, Minister of MAHUD, Town Planning, Forests and Environment, Horticulture and Soil Conservation appealed to the citizens of the State especially youths not to be ashamed while taking up any kind of work.
Stating that the youths of the State have a big role to play in improving economy of Manipur, Minister Shyamkumar was hopeful that the State will progress once the citizens take up all kinds of work with emphasis on self-employment.
Minister Shyamkumar said that, the Government has come across many illegal pattas for spaces covering the drains of the Khwairamband Keithel during the last 15 years. He added that, the new government is firm to take legal action against the wrong doers. The Minister appealed to the public to imbibe civic sense to maintain cleanliness and said that, 200 dustbins will be kept in different locations across the market.
Speaking as the Guest of Honour at the function, Shri L. Susindro Meitei, Parliamentary Secretary (Home) appealed to the government to provide 24X7 toilet service in the Khwairamband Keithel as the workers of the KEDO are facing inconveniences working during the night time. Susindro also drew the need for toilet facility for the shoppers.
Susindro Meitei assured that, a loan of Rs 20,000 each will be given to KEDO workers in collaboration with Bandhan Bank, promising the same to the women vendors in case of requirement. He further said that, a new market shed with 500 shops will be soon constructed at Khurai to be open 5 days a week. A day will be used for cleaning the market while the next day will be an off day for the workers. Assuring that KEDO workers will be contacted for the purpose, Susindro Meitei promised to construct a new place for the workers at Khurai Lamlong Keithel.
As part of the function, Minister Th. Shyamkumar along with Parliamentary Secretary L. Susindro handed over a four-wheeler vehicle – ‘Mahindra Jeeto’ to KEDO worker Thockchom Sanathoi which will be used for ferrying drinking water. He bought the vehicle with loan from KEDO Finance. The annual souvenir of KEDO was also released on the occasion. Awards and certificates were also presented to KEDO workers under best discipline and best worker categories.
