IMPHAL, 6th May, 2017(DIPR):Deputy Chief Minister Shri Y. Joykumar Singh today reviewed the current status of Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) and Financial Inclusion relating to various welfare schemes which are being implemented in the State.
The meeting which was held at the Conference Hall of Manipur Secretariat (South Block) and chaired by the Deputy Chief Ministerdiscussed in length the technicalities of implementation of DBT for various schemes implemented by the departments.
Head of departments including from Rural Development, Social Welfare, Tribal Affairs & Hills and School Education deliberated on issues pertaining to the cent-percent implementation of DBT and seeding of Aadhar & Mobile number with beneficiaries’ bank accounts in the State.
While acknowledging the difficulties faced by various departments in implementing schemes through DBT, mostly in the remote areas where banking facilities have not been provided, Shri Joykumar Singh instructed the bank officials to expedite means to open branches wherever necessary. He maintained that all major issues like infrastructure, connectivity and communication while opening bank branches would be addressed if all the stakeholders co-operate each other.He appealed to all the stakeholders to co-operate with the government to attain the target as it is one of the target set by the government.
Regarding the opening of bank branches in the unbanked blocks in the State, Commissioner (Finance) Shri V. K. Dewanggan said, of the 32 unbanked blocks in the State, initiative have been started for opening bank branches in 21blocks. Of these, banks will be made operational in four blocks-T.Vaichong, Phungyar, Nungba and Sangaikotfrom first June this year and remaining blocks will also be covered very soon, he added. He also instructed the officials to complete Aadhar& Mobile number seeding with beneficiaries’ bank accounts as early as possible.
The meeting which was attended by the bank officials also discussed issues about financial inclusion/ opening of bank accounts in the State. The total Saving Accounts opened in the State as on 31/03/2017 are 26, 85,430 of which Aadhar seeded accounts are 10, 38,895 only. Out of the total 1, 23,599 beneficiaries under different schemes in Social Welfare Department, only 2,370 beneficiaries are yet to open/register their bank accounts. (DIPR)
