STEPS TO BE TAKEN UP TO DEVELOP ART AND MUSIC IN THE STATE: MINISTER L. JAYANTAKUMAR SINGH

IMPHAL, MAY 6, 2017(DIPR): Art and Culture Minister Shri L. Jayantakumar Singh today expressed his desire for taking up necessary actions to develop Art and Music of the state. Attending the 55th Foundation Day Celebration of Shri Shri Bal Mukunda Dev Music College (SSDBMC), Palace Compound, Imphal as Chief Guest, Minister said music speaks without boundaries and connects the heart and the mind. Old cultural tradition of our state is reflected in our Folk and Traditional Music. Urging the Musicians and Musicologists of the state to go for further research for the indigenous form of music of the state, minister said it is our responsibility to keep the standard of our form of music high.

Speaking about the site of art & culture of the state at Gurgaon (Gurugram) in Haryana he said that a team of the Government of Manipur has already visited the site. Necessary steps to develop the site will soon be taken up, he added.

He appealed the people of Manipur to co-operate with the Government in developing the art of music of the state.

Floral tributes to the founders of the Music College, lighting of the inaugural lamp, presentation of music ensemble by the students of SSBDMC were the main events of the day. Prizes were also distributed to the winners of the Manipur Folk Music Competition 2016-17. A souvenir was also released by the Chief Guest.

Shri M. Lakshmikumar Singh, IAS Commissioner Art & Culture, Manipur and Dr. K. Sushila Director, Art & Culture attended the function as President and Guest of Honour respectively. (DIPR)
