Imphal, May 09, 2017 (DIPR): Chief Minister Shri N. Biren Singh has said that the State Government is going to organise Shirui Festival at State level with the objective of promoting the uniqueness of Shirui flower and encouraging brotherhood and oneness among the people of different communities of the State.
The Chief Minister made the statement while speaking at the launch of official website of Shirui Festival, 2017 held in the Cabinet Hall of CM’s Secretariat today. The site is now available at www.shiruifestival.gov.in.
Conveying that around Rs 1.5 crore would be spent in holding the event, the Chief Minister said that people’s participation and enthusiasm in making preparations for the festival is immense.
Shri N. Biren said that apart from delegates from foreign countries, cultural troupes from other North East States like Sikkim and Nagaland would also perform during the five-day festival.
Reminding that Shirui is found only in Manipur, the Chief Minister stated that necessary steps would be taken up by the Government to declare its habitat, Shirui Hill as a National Park.
He further said that efforts would be put in to organise Shirui Festival at National level from next year.
On the other hand, he further said that the State Government is considering shifting the venue of Manipur Sangai Festival from Imphal to Keibul Lamjao, which is the original habitat of the brow-antlered deer, from next year.
Shri N. Biren also disclosed that the State Government is also planning to organise Loktak Festival at State level from next year.
Moreover, the new Government had also decided to earmark a fund of Rs 50 crores in the budget to develop and revive 50 heritage sites like Wangbren at Anal Khullen, Kankhui caves, Ingourok, Thangjing, Kaina and Marjing etc.
The Chief Minister further said that efforts are being made to construct a rest house at Dzuko. Apart from that, the State Government is also exploring the possibilities of constructing a road up to Dzuko from Manipur side, he added.
In an interaction with media persons after launching the website, Shri N. Biren expressed confidence that the impasse with JAC Against Anti-Tribal Bills, Churachandpur will be resolved very soon.
He said that the State Government is likely to sign an MoU with the JAC to end around two-year-old impasse tomorrow.
Shri N. Biren further said that a State Government team led by Chief Secretary Shri O. Nabakishore would visit Churachandpur to ink the MoU. Under Secretary (Home) of the Central Government would also be present as a Central Observer, he added.
Responding to a query on Combined Headquarters meeting held at CM’s Secretariat today, Shri N. Biren said that opening of a 24-hour quick response cell comprising officers of different security agencies to diffuse unwanted incidents on the National Highways was discussed. He further informed that points like recording biometric attendance of cadres of different UG organisations which are under Suspension of Operation and drafting of a new surrender policy were also discussed at the meeting.
