Imphal, June 19th 2017 (DIPR): Education Minister Shri Th. Radheshyam, today, distributed the lump sum grant to Government Aided and Private College for implementation of Vocationalisation of Higher Education underRashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA). The programme organised by the Department of University & Higher Education, Manipur was held at the SSA Hall, Babupara.
The scheme, Vocationalisation of Higher Education underRUSA, is to achieveskilled workforce defined according to Set of Standards (SOS). This will create skilled and productive workforce matching international standardsfacilitated with flexible learning and competency building paradigms among the students. This scheme will now make it possible to receive vocational training in university level degree through a mechanism of credit accumulation and transfer and bridge courses.
Speaking as chief guest, Education Minister stressed on the need to familiarise and clear the confusion about the vocational course since there is already so much other vocational and technical education. He said the scheme of Vocationalisation of Higher Education should be utilised considering the need of state and prioritising the requirement in view of the socio, economic and political construct. He also emphasised on the need to developed and upgrade colleges in the state with latest update through a holistic approach.
Further, he indicated on the need to make the students relevant of the present scenario of today’s competitive world. Everything, he said, is base on demand-supply of the market. Therefore it is very important that they be imbibed with necessary qualities to become productive and become a self sufficient individual. He also expressed his concern on the need to take possible measures to address the high number of drop-out of students failing to get admission in the university level degree.
The scheme should be utilised considering the need of the state prioritising the requirement keeping in view the socio, economic and political construct of the state, he added.
To make fast and foremost focus for the welfare of the student, he requested the teachers to provide the best to the student within the available limited resources. On need to groom students the best in academic or in other event, he said, the teacher must have a vision and set a target to produce the best of students who could participate on different competitions.
Commissioner higher and technical education H. Deleep Singh said, the Vocationalisation of Higher Education is very important and is also a very challenging task. With the syllabus already set for level four and five adapting the national framework with industrial partner as service providers, forty colleges have been identified through mapping. These colleges will take up the following main trades – IT, ITES, fishery, floriculture, horticulture, tourism and hospitality, retail management, Fruit Preservation Tech, Food Processing Technology, Computer Hardware Technology, Rubber Manufacturing Technology,Medicinal Plant,Journalismand Automotive.
The programme was participated by Director, University and Higher Education B. John Tlangtingkuma, Officials, Principals and Teachers of the colleges. (DIPR)
