OUR FUTURE LIES IN THE AGRICULTURE SECTOR: N. BIREN SINGH

Imphal, June 27, 2017 (DIPR): Chief Minister Shri N. Biren Singh said that the future of the State lies in the agriculture and tourism sector and the new government is committed to give extra focus on these sectors. This was stated by him at the inauguration of the workshop on “Strengthening of Lab to Land Module” and release of action plan on “Doubling of Farmers’ income by 2022 in Manipur” held at Hotel Classic Grande, Imphal today. The function was organised by Department of Agriculture, Government of Manipur.

Speaking as Chief Guest of the function, Chief Minister stressed that we need systematic marketing of products, enabling double cropping and proper rain water or ground water harvesting so as to improve agriculture sector in the State. Highlighting the limited agricultural land in the State, Shri N. Biren Singh said that if we don’t preserve and protect the agricultural land, agricultural sector cannot be sustained and developed the in the State. The government has directed all the concerned DCs and Authorities to take up necessary steps for the preservation of the agricultural land for agricultural and horticultural purposes, he added.

Chief Minister said that systematic thinking, punctuality and discipline is the sole mantra in bringing growth and development in the State. He further said, “It is high time that we change our mindset and behaviour and execute our duties with responsibility for an inclusive development in the State.” He appealed to all the departments of the State to invite learned persons and experts from Universities etc. and constitute a sub-committee or advisory board to work for development and broaden the area of operation of the departments.

Minister for Agriculture and Veterinary and Animal Husbandry, Shri V. Hangkhalian, Parliamentary Secretary (Home), Shri L. Susindro Meitei, Chief Secretary, Shri O. Nabakishore Singh, Addl. Chief Secretary Dr. Suhel Akhtar,VC, CAU, Dr. M. Premjit Singh, Director, Agriculture, Shri Ph. Rajendra Singh and officials of Agriculture Department attended the function. (DIPR)
