Imphal October 2, 2017 (DIPR): Education Minister Shri Thokchom Radheshyam Singh said that with the initiative of the Directorate of Education, Manipur 1997 schools of Manipur celebrated Gandhi Jayanti – the International Day of Non Violence and National Cleanliness Day, today. He said that the new government gives huge emphasis on the environmental cleanliness and hygiene of the people for the making of ‘New India’.
The Minister was speaking at a press meet held at the Directorate of Education – S, Lamphel after visiting and interacting with the students and teahcers carrying out cleanliness drive at their educational institutional premises.
As part of the whole nation observing The Swachhta Pakhwada – ‘clealiness, inside out ‘as part of Swachhta Hi Seva Campaign, the Government and Aided schools of Manipur also observed from 1st to 15th September 2017. While the different offices of the Education Departments spread across the state observe another 3 – days drive of cleanliness from 30 September 2017 – 2 October 2017. During the Swachhta Pakhwada many activities were also organised in the schools.
Th. Radheshyam also highlighted that his team is carrying out a weekly cleanliness drive on every Saturday in the schools of Manipur. He added that such activities has been carried out to make the teachers, students and the parents feel the sense of belongings towards the school as their own.
The Minister pointed out that the weekly cleanliness activities of the school will go on, on a regular basis to reinstate and inculcate the sense of sanitation and hygiene in the children. The purity of mind and soul, he said, is as much important as that of physical cleanliness to remain positive.
Principal Education (S) Shri Vineet Joshi, Director Education (S) Shri Th. Kirankumar Singh and officials’ of Education Department were also present during the press conference.(DIPR)
