Imphal, July 20, 2107 (DIPR): A delegation team of Mahidol University, Thailand met the Chief Minister Shri N. Biren Singh to discuss the prospects of tourism sector in Northeast India and Manipur in particular. The meeting was held today at Chief Minister’s Secretariat.
The four member delegation led by Prof. Sophana Srichampa, Chair, Center for Bharat Studies, Mahidol University expressed that Manipur has the potential to become a healthcare and medical tourism hub of the region, covering northeast India and neighbouring Myanmar as Manipur is the gateway to Southeast Asia. Prof. Sophana Srichampa mentioned that there would be an increase in the tourist inflow if the road infrastructure is improved in the Northeast India connecting with the ASEAN countries. Better road connectivity would not only attract tourists but can also bring the people of the Southeast Asian countries closer.
Mentioning about the Manipur’s scenic beauty, rich culture and tradition, Prof. Sophana Srichampa said that Manipur has a lot to offer in terms of tourism and culture where people from different countries could explore the distinct and unexplored beauty of the region.
Minister for Forest and Enviroment Shri Th. Shyamkumar, Chief Secretary Shri R.R. Rashmi and Advisor to CM Shri Rajat Sethi were present in the meeting. (DIPR)
