Imphal, March 1, 2015: As part of its continuing talk event series, Dynamic Manipur organised Inspiration episode 6 at MIMS Conference Hall, Manipur University under the theme ‘Globalization – Social Challenges for Youth of Manipur’.
Dr. Dhanabir Laishram, Social Scientist, Counselor IGNOU, former guest lecturer at Political Science Department, MU, columnist of Poknapham and The People’s Chronicle delivered his resourceful speech on the topic “Moulding of National Character’ as resource person while Prof. W. Nabakumar, Department of Anthropology, MU, former Dean of Students and presently Director, Centre of Myanmarese Studies spoke on the topic “Indigenous Cultural & Social Values vis-à-vis Globalization’.
Since India cannot build up a national character, the country is lagging behind the progress. Ministers, MLAs, Bureaucrat officers are lack of integrity, sincerity and sacrifice while serving for the people and at the same time, people are also lack of work culture, sacrifice and sense of nationalism. We need to take account of as to why the countries like China and Japan are developing so fast. It is because that the people of these countries have high sense of belongingness, sense of nationalism apart from hard work, sacrificing spirit. Social change and development is not possible lest the country builds up a national character, said Dr. Dhanabir Laishram, Social Scientist while delivering his speech on “Moulding of National Character’.
Earlier, Dynamic Manipur has organized such talk events five times where renowned entrepreneurs, Artistes and sportspersons motivated the young minds through their struggling stories.
While globalization and technology being unavoidable part for a changing society in Manipur, the need to preserve moral, social and cultural values are something very important for us to show to the world about our own identity and uniqueness. Citing the examples about the many aged old practices that our ancestors had been practiced, Professor Nabakumar noted that present generation should perform investigation with scientific research and should carry them forward such traditions to be integrated within the modern society like century old traditions of China are still part of the modern age. He cited the examples of Mr. World Meipak and Ratan Thiyam on how they performed on the stages by mimicking our own cultural and traditional practices.
