IMPHAL, JUNE 8, 2017(DIPR): The issue of growing racism and violence against North East people should be raised in the National Level Youth Festivals. He said any attempt to discriminate any citizen based on caste, gender, language, facial features, and religion should be condemned in the strongest possible term.This was stated by Shri Karam Shyam, Minister CAF&PD and Revenue, during the valedictory function of the North East NSS Youth Festival, 2017 held at the Centenary Hall, Manipur University.
The Minister said the festival organised by the National Service Scheme (NSS) Cell, Manipur University will help in empowering youth through the activities such as personality development, cultural exchange inbuilt with a sense of love, peace, harmony and national integration. A nation can progress in the right direction when the youth energy is used in a right, effective and constructive way, he added. The Minister expressed hope that NSS Cell, MU will organise a National Level Youth Festival in the coming years which will be a great avenue to celebrate the diversity of India.
Minister Karam Shyam said that, for a successful democratic system, the youth must participate in the democratic process. He also reminded the participants of the festival that, one must not forget the fundamental duties while asserting the fundamental rights. We can serve the nation by merely performing our duties, he added.
Speaking as the Guest of honour, Prof. M. Shyamkesho Singh, Registrar (i/c) Manipur University said the interaction among the participants during the festival will help in deeper understanding of the rich culture of the 8 (eight) north east states.Speaking as the Guest of honour, Prof. Kh. Tomba Singh, Dean of Students’ Welfare Manipur University said that, youth unemployment is one of the principle social and economic challenges facing the country. He said we must promote youth entrepreneurship to enhance employability and employment opportunities.
The function was also attended by Shri. L. Rameshwor Meetei, Parliamentary Secretary(IFCD), Prof. M. Shyamkesho Singh, Registrar, Manipur University and Shri. H.K. Sharma, Programme Advisor, NSS, New Delhi. As part of the valedictory function, mementos and certificates were distributed to the participants and programme officers by the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour of the function.
During the festival participants took part in various activities like personality development, meditation and laughter therapy among others. Around 300 (three hundred) volunteers and programme officers from Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Assam, Nagaland, Mizoram, Tripura and Manipur are taking part in the North East NSS Youth Festival which began on June 4, 2017.
