GST DISSEMINATION WORKSHOP FOR LEGISLATORS HELD

IMPHAL, 30th May, 2017(DIPR): A one day Goods and Services (GST) Dissemination Workshop for the Members of Manipur Legislative Assembly was held today at Imperial Hall in Hotel Classic Grande in Imphal. The workshop deliberated on different aspects of GST which is going to be rolled out throughout the country on 1st July this year.

Speaking at the inaugural session, Deputy Chief Minister Shri Yumnam Joykumar Singh said, the workshop is being organised to facilitate the Members to know about the proposed legislation-State GST Bill which is going to be introduced in the State Assembly on 2nd June this year. He said, it will help the members to understand the Bill so that it can easily be passed in the Assembly.

Expressing concern over the absence of Opposition Members in the discussion, Deputy Chief Minister said, all members need to know the proposed legislation before introducing and passing it in the Assembly. He said, it will help in resource mobilization in the State as well. He appealed the dealers to register to GST at the earliest so that their business may not be affected.

Commissioner (Finance), Shri Vivek Kumar Dewangan said, 22 States have adopted the GST legislation so far. The Bill is likely to be passed within first week of June this year in the state also. He said, the new tax regime has proposed to be levied from manufacturers up to consumers in different level. All farm products will be levied 0% tax while the maximum tax slab will be 28% under GST. Handloom – an important sector in North East have not been finalised of how much GST will be levied. It will be finalised in the 15th GST Council Meeting which is slated to be held on 2-3rd of June this year in New Delhi. Many taxes have subsumed to GST, he added.

GST Council representative Ms. Thari Sitkil and Anurag Goel, Commissioner of Taxes, Assam deliberated in depth on GST in the Workshop. Ministers, Parliamentary Secretaries and MLAs attended the workshop. (DIPR)
