HANDLOOM AND HANDICRAFT EMPORIUM WILL BE OPENED VERY SOON IN EVERY DISTRICT: TH .BISWAJIT

Imphal,14th May,2017.(DIPR).Minister of Textiles, Commerce & Industries Shri Thongam Biswajit has stated that handloom and handicraft emporium will be opened very soon in every district of the state with an aim to attract more tourists in the state. He was speaking on the occasion of reception ceremony cum opening of new bank account of weavers held at uchekon, Laikon Lampak. The function was jointly organised by department of Textiles,Commerce& Industry and Directorate of Handlooms & Textiles.

He said that handloom and handicraft products of our state is well known over the country.The spinning mill located at Loitang Khunou will be revived very soon .Ministry of textiles is going to provide 70% subsidy for reviving the spinning mill as it is the only spinning mill of cotton in the entire northeast he added.

He also stated that central government is going to provide 4 lakhs of solar power looms to the weavers of the state with an aim to increase their production as well as their income .Inorder to save times for the weavers,delivery system of raw materials will be launched very soon in the state.There are 4.5 lakhs of household in the state without employment. And the present government is targeting to generate employment of 1 lakh people in a year under various departments .Handloom and handicraft is very important because as it is main source of income in our state .And opening of bank accounts of weavers will check transparency of any implementing agency.

Speaking on the occasion Project Manager (handloom),Imphal east ,Smt P. Meenakumari said it is necessary for the weavers to open bank account for applying various schemes under central government .She also appeal to all weavers to possessed idendity card while applying for the schemes .In connection with the function lead District Manager, UBI ,Imphal East Shri Seikai Singsit also highlighted the benefits of UPI (Unified Payment Interface APPS) to the gathering. Around 300 weavers opened their accounts.
