IMPHAL, May 24 (DIPR): As part of the Government’s persistent efforts to bring an amicable and final settlement to issues plaguing the Mapithel dam-affected villagers, IFCD and YAS Minister Shri Letpao Haokip visited Chadong village today to personally hear and assess the woes of the dam-affected villagers.
Addressing the gatherings at Chadong village Church, IFCD Minister Shri Letpao Haokip said that the State government is keen to solve the problems of Mapithel dam-affected villagers once and for all and facilitate early commissioning of the multi-crore project. Towards this end, the Government is setting up a high power committee consisting of Works, Agriculture, Horticulture, Forest, CAF&PD, and Education Ministers.
“I have come here today to start the relations between the dam-affected villagers and the government,” Shri Letpao Haokip said while announcing housing for all displaced families and sustainable livelihood sources to them.
The Minister also promised to pursue the concerned authorities regarding the various demands raised by the villagers including setting up of a school at Chadong village. “Come forward with your problems. We are with you,” the Minister told the villagers while also urging them to make positive approach. “We are a democratic country guided by the principle of ‘government of the people, by the people and for the people,’ he said.
Shri Letpao urged the villagers to extend maximum cooperation to the Government so that the project sees the light of day without any further delay.
Representatives of various organizations like Chadong Katamnao Long (students’ body), youth, women society, MDAVO, village elders, etc highlighted their grievances to the Minister.
Vice-Chairman of Ukhrul ADC, Shri Thanmi Kashung, Engineers of IFCD were present in the meeting. Prior to the visit to Chadong, the Minister along with CE of IFCD G. Robindro Sharma inspected the Mapithel dam.
On the way back to Imphal, the Minister and the officials inspected the IFCD’s RCC tunnel No. 2 (for water transmission system from Thoubal Dam to Chingkheiching) at Yaralpat. (DIPR)
