Imphal, September 30, 2017 (DIPR): Information and Public Relations Minister Shri Thongam Biswajit Singh today called for a concerted effort from all sections of the society to bring development in the State.
Addressing the 121st Birth Anniversaries of Lamyanba Hijam Irabot and Athouba Angom Ibungohalmani at the Leishang Hiden Heritage Site today, Minister Biswajit said the elected representatives alone could not bring development, but require support and cooperation of the people to bring development to the society.
He further stressed on the responsibilities of all towards bringing development in the society and said development of any society is in the hands of the people. Every section of the society has its own responsibility towards bringing development to Manipur, Minister Biswajit observed.
Minister Biswajit also spoke on the need to bring unity among the different communities residing in the State and said bridging the gap among the people is one of the main objectives of the present government.
The government also aims to bring equal development by bringing up the poorer section of the society, he said.
Minister Biswajit also delved on the need to improve the State’s economy and further stressed that we can achieve something only through hard work.
He further encouraged the students to aim high and to work harder to achieve their goals.
On Lamyanba Hijam Irabot’s contribution to the Manipuri society, the Minister said Lamyanba Hijam Irabot was not only a politician, but a leader who worked selflessly against social injustices. He was also a sportsman, a poet, Minister Biswajit added.
Lamyanba Hijam Irabot had worked for the poor and was a strong leader during the Nupi Lan movement, he said.
Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Minister Shri Karam Shyam said Lamyanba Hijam Irabot is remembered today, across the State today. He said people are remembered for the things they do during their lifetime.
Lamyanba Hijam Irabot was not just a revolutionary, but a poet, an artist. He further urged the people to follow in the footsteps of the leader.
Keirao A/C MLA Shri Lourembam Rameshwar Meetei said we should not remember our leaders like Lamyanba Hijam Irobot only on their birth or death anniversaries, but we should follow their visions.
Stating that Lamyanba Hijam Irabot had a vision to see a self-sufficient Manipuri society, the local MLA said people should plant vegetables in their own yard so that the people become self sufficient.
MLA Rameshwar also appealed to the people to use local products in order to encourage local entrepreneurs and develop our economy.
As part of the observation, the dignitaries led the others in offering floral tributes to portraits of Lamyanba Hijam Irabot and Athouba Angom Ibungohalmani.
