Imphal, May 27, 2017 (DIPR): Public Works Minister Shri Thongam Biswajit Singh today instructed the Executive Engineers of the every division of the department to submit progress reports of all their ongoing projects through the Chief Engineer at the earliest. The engineers were also instructed to provide details including name of projects, deadline, status of all roads including IVRs, OVRs, MVRs, highways of the State.
The Minister issued the instructions during a review meeting of the department held this evening at his Conference Hall, New Secretariat. The meeting was also attended by the Chief Engineer PWD Ch Tiken and other officials of the department.
Continuing his address, the Minister assured to take up all necessary steps to provide adequate manpower so that the department is able to function properly. He elaborated efforts have been initiated to recruit SOs and other staffs to increase the staff strength.
He further stressed on the need to check the output of the muster-rolls and daily wagers, and asked the department officials to initiate verification of the muster roll staffs.
The Minister also instructed the engineers to look into the issue of water logging problems in Imphal. He further asked the officials to survey and to check the roads leading to the top of Baruni Hill and undertake work to develop the most feasible road for the convenience of the pilgrims and people.
The Minister further instructed the concerned officials to identify all heavy machineries of the department lying unattended at work sites or with retired officials and to auction off all those which are more than 15 years old.
He also asked the concerned engineer to mend the potholes along the highway in front of the State Assembly at the earliest.
Highlighting the actions taken up under the 100-days programme by the department, the Chief Engineer said the department is taking up mending of pot-holes in the district headquarters and that mending of potholes along the Imphal-Senapati-Mao is underway. He continued the target to complete the Sendra Tourist Circuit by June 26 will also be achieved.
He also highlighted other works undertaken by the department including restoration work of the Tupul to Kasom Khullen, construction of Tongjei Maril, Irang Bridge and Leimatak Bridge.
The Chief Engineer also brought up certain issues during the meeting including the ownership issues of Inspection Bungalows and PWD offices in the State. He also said that all Mini Secretariats except for the Churachandpur and Tamenglong are completed and functional and that the department should take up the annual or normal maintenance of the building.
He continued Rs.450.00 crores have been allocated for development of Roads under the NERDS during the 12th Five Year Plan. (DIPR)
