Imphal, June 8 (DIPR):Commerce and Industries Minister Shri Thongam Biswajit Singh, today, inaugurated a newly constructed work-shed of Arcus Modern Handloom and Handicraft Enterprises and launched the e-commerce platform of the enterprise near Nambol Maibamlotpa Ching Leimaram Lamkhai.
Addressing the inaugural function, Minister Biswajit said encouraging entrepreneurs will help in generating employment in the State.The State government’s target is to provide livelihood avenues to 1.5 lakh youth every year, he said adding that chaos and unrest will prevail in the society as long as the problem of unemployment is there.
He said that, people instead of waiting for only government jobs should have the determination to work hard and sustain their livelihood.
Starting from the Nupilan movement, womenfolk in the Manipuri society has played an important role including in developing handloom, he said. Apart from agriculture, handloom and handicraft have also been source of income for many, he said.
The Minister also observed that concerned department officials should not discriminate while granting loans and subsidies to beneficiaries. He elaborated such discrimination will only demoralise the artisans and young entrepreneurs.
The vision of the present government is to bridge the hill-valley gap, he said. Lack of development in the hills led to the conflict between the communities.
The Commerce and Industries Minister also said that, soon solar power looms will be distributed to intended beneficiaries so as to save their time and labour, and enhance productivity at the sametime. He continued soil testing for suitability of cotton plantation will soon be conducted at Jiribam and Moreh.
He also said that for the benefit of the weavers of the State, the Commerce and Industries department will soon launch raw material delivery at doorsteps of weavers.
Minister Biswajit also said that he is conducting monthly review meetings of all departments under him. This will help in the growth of the departments. He said through the meetings the officials and staff can highlight the grievances of their concerned departments so that all issues are redress after due consideration.
Oinam MLA Shri Laishram Radhakishore Singh who is also Chairman, Pollution Control Board and Khadi and Village Industries Board, Manipur stressed on the importance to strengthen the work culture among the youth of the State.
Moirang MLA Shri P. Sarachandra Singh also spoke at length on capacity building and strengthening human resource development in the State.
