Imphal, May 24, 2017 (DIPR): Commerce and Industries Minister Shri Th. Biswajit has said that under Commerce and Industries the State Government is targeting to provide employment to 3000 youths. Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Department is also targeting to give employment opportunities to 3000 youths under various schemes. This was stated by the Minister in a meeting held at his office chamber at Secretariat New Block. The meeting discussed on – Project for Plantation of improved variety of turmeric in Manipur, Fund matters for the procurement of turmeric mother plant and the actual fund proposed for the project is Eighty Lakhs (80,0000/-) to be provided by the State Government.
Plantation of turmeric plant was taken up after successful plantation of Stevia and Lemon Grass. Market linkage for turmeric plantation has already been established. 4000 acres of land for plantation of turmeric plant has been identified in Imphal East and Thoubal District.
Citing on PMEGP, he stressed there is need to give awareness about the scheme to the masses and the department will form screening committee to sanction this particular scheme. The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary and Director of Commerce and Industries, Managing Director, Legal Advisor, Technical Consultant and Officials of Manipur Food Industries Corporation Limited.
